The Parkwood investment department is responsible for sourcing, evaluating and monitoring external asset managers and internally managed strategies. Much of our assets are invested with outside managers with expertise in their respective areas. The balance of the portfolio is managed internally.
Parkwood has a stable asset base and a long-term investment horizon, which allows us to take advantage of the returns available from attractive, but less liquid investments.
The Parkwood accounting group is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial information and financial reports; implementing a strong internal control structure; and applying accounting policies and procedures that comply with generally accepted accounting principles. This includes reconciling all custodial and trading accounts, updating the fair market value of externally managed funds, managing cash movements and preparing financial statements.
The mission of the Parkwood tax group is to ensure that Parkwood and its clients are in compliance with federal, state, local and international tax laws. In addition, the tax group provides Parkwood and its clients with strategic tax planning and other important tax services. Tax implications are reviewed in conjunction with investment decisions, wealth transfers and philanthropic activities. For the most recent tax year, the tax group filed approximately 1,600 tax returns, which included federal, international and state filings in 44 state and local jurisdictions. In addition, the tax group corresponds with tax authorities on behalf of clients regarding notices and tax audits.
The mission of the Parkwood legal group is to fulfill the legal needs of Parkwood and its clients. Parkwood lawyers develop and continually monitor best practices aimed at solving the needs of Parkwood and its clients in the areas of personal legal services, estate and transfer tax planning, investment implementation and corporate legal matters. The legal group works closely with the investment group to conduct due diligence on all Parkwood investments and reviews all investment agreements to ensure that they conform to Parkwood standards.
Estate planning at Parkwood provides families with guidance regarding personal and financial affairs. Parkwood has spent considerable time developing an estate planning philosophy that enhances the likelihood family values will endure from generation to generation.
Parkwood operates a wholly owned private trust company based in Wilmington, Delaware. Parkwood Trust Company serves as the Trustee or Investment Manager for many of the Mandel family trusts and their related charitable entities.
